Technical Links Redux

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Today I have added two new Technical Resources.

First up is W3Schools, a link I’m sure anyone teaching themselves flash has found extremely useful.  It’s a collection of step by step tutorials on how to do things (Not just in flash but in other areas as well).

Second is DevX, Which is similar but tends to focus more on explaining the concepts used in different web languages. It also has sections on programming languages.

Now that links are spoken of, I’d like to bring up the topic of focus and determination again. Seeing as I’ve set myself the goal of having the new version of wordpress installed on my blog by tomorrow night (Along with other goals of mine), I have a lot of work to do ahead of me! Especially since I don’t want to lose the work I’ve put into my current style. SO I shall have to move ahead on making my own style for this blog.

Among the advantages of such, this will allow me to better establish my unique web identity (Much more so then my current variation on the default style). And it’ll be a useful learning experience, particularly with the work I need to do in learning various web technologies. It’ll also allow me to better keep a finger on the pulse of what’s hot and cutting edge on the net, which is always a plus.

Until next time!

Martialing an Art

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Recently it was decided that I should be developing a martial art (Extension of, if you can’t do, teach) in that I need a measure of discipline and ability in my life that I currently lack.

To do so I should set down the concepts I wish to include.

1.Flow – A martial art is about moving your body, and often involves moving from one position or style to another. Being able to flow between stances or footworks is probably a good advantage

2. Movement – Learning Parkour is something I want as part of it, area and target denial being excellent strategies for self defense

3. Efficiency – Using your own or your opponents energy to the best ability is especially important. In a real situation running out of energy can lead to bad situations.

4. Determination – One of the hardest things to do with any long term goal is to stay motivated. Some of us are lucky enough that through training or practice we develope the habit of success, for keeping motivated. It is one of the things I want to develope through training.

That’s all for now, but I think it’s a pretty solid base. Now to practice some Tai Chi!

Spider Catches a Fly

So it’s interesting to think on certain things, particularly in the neighbourhood of creative works. Specifically? For the next little bit I’d like to talk about focus.

Focus is an interesting things, and allows one to concentrate on the task at hand when there is other things they’d rather do. When working for yourself, it’s important to maintain a sense of focus, because it’s really all that stands between you and getting nothing done whatsoever.

I guess the fact that a) it’s been ages since I last updated, and b) I have yet to post an image here, it’s fair to say that focus is something I lack and need to work on. In the meantime, I have studying and unpacking, as well as a design job to do.
