Updates Required

Well it’s come time for me to actually start working as a media artist, and to make something more professional out of this website. Specifically to look into portfolio options and whatnot.

Planning on paper is a good way to start this. It gives the opportunity to look at things in front of you. Good idea, I think. Well, off to walk the dog and get things on paper.

EA Devilry? Indeed

Friday, March 26th, 2010

EA Digital Devilry. I mean delivery of course.

Directed to this article via Penny Arcade and I think the comment they make about devilry is correct. At least I like writing devilry so I’ll use the word as many times as I damn well please. Though I’ve used it enough and should get on with my point, should i not?

Tycho does a better job of commenting then I do, I lack is narrative in talking of such, so I will instead let you go read his words and make the following comment in regards to this quote from the article: “Pachter says these paid ‘demos’ will act as a sort of beta test for the company.”

Speaking as someone who’s both done beta testing, and worked on game development, I find the idea of charging people for little more then a limited beta test reprehensible. Now, I’m sure EA will make money off this strategy regardless, but the sheer number of patches games seem to require nowadays is pretty disconcerting. If we’re paying for a game, why aren’t we getting the finished product? And now they are selling us these demos/betas? I’ve participated in betas where the testers should have been paid for their work, so the irony of them selling that to us is not lost on me.

So maybe I just need a better sense of humor about this. Cheers.

Evolution and Adaptation

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I feel great and all, finally started doing the yoga style I’ve been wanting to do… Because I’m constantly trying to look at the book it took me about 2 hours. I’ll work on it and get better :)

An Entry?!

Surprise, surprise!

As it happens, I’ve found reason to write again. Been busy between work and raising my son, so I haven’t found a lot of time until the past couple days for cleaning up all the little things I should be keeping organized!

Well all things considered, this is an opportunity to do more. And so I will reach out and take it!

Recently received good advice on writing. I think that I’ve heard similar advice on getting better at any particular skill.

1 Get enthused.  You are the only one pushing you to do it, so get into it

2 Set some time for yourself every day. Even if it’s just 10-20 minutes first thing in the morning, it’s important to do it every day!

3 Enjoy the process. Don’t get bogged down by how it is at first. You’ll improve!

Alright, that is my piece, take care!

The myths and adventures of our youth. Are they enough to share with the youth of tomorrow? Our youth? Do we need to raise the bar?

I don’t know. I watch increasingly bad pieces of modern pop culture and can’t help wonder about the overall quality of thought.

On the other hand, instead of criticizing the artists of our day, it is perhaps more useful to realize that if there must be a hero in our lives, it must necessarily be us.

Cheers.

Stopping a Fight

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Looking tough is occasionally it’s own advantage. Allow me to share this useful anecdote:

A man was bothering a friend of mine (Not taking no for an answer) so I told him to stop. This man gave me a look like he was about to pound me. “What are you gonna do about it?”

Since I had a lit cigarette (I hold one while talking to my smoking friends so they don’t feel weird) I put it out with my tongue and showed no reaction to the sizzling sound it made (I’ve practiced this with matches so I don’t burn myself, just sounds like it). Then I placed the now OUT cigarette behind my ear and looked him straight in the eye.

He paled a bit, and walked away. Good thing too, he would have kicked my ass.

Oh dear

Yeah I’m getting some weird spam comments. Sorry I haven’t updated in a while, been trying to concentrate on other things, but everything just seems to be going crazy.

Solutions will be found and wherever possible, acted upon.

In the meantime, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Chinese Proverb

“If you fall down 7 times, get up 8″

“Never, never, never give up.”

Some good words to live by. Particularly in the harder times of life where we just feel the whole world coming down around us, try to crush the life out of us… It can feel pretty crappy!

Positive affirmation and visualization is awesome in strength, but it can be hard to put into practice some days. It takes a lot of belief.

But I think that taking the negative and turning it into the positive is an amazing trait. So that’s my goal. From now on, I’m not going to stress it when life gets tough. I’m gonna just make it to my advantage.

Cheers, and best of luck to you all!

Timing and Activity

Monday, May 4th, 2009

It’s an interesting balance trying to find time in every day, it comes down to the old practices of making time, of managing your time.  But in an increasingly busy world, how can we keep up with the flow of people going in and out of our lives? It’s important to remember the even older practices, of letting go, stress management and self-care of various kinds. Breakfast should be filled with good stuff, but doesn’t mean to skimp out on lunch!

As for myself, I’m spending my mornings in meditation and physical training, followed by a period of thinking and reasoning. Working out different problems (And occasionally making progress on moving into my room!) and listening to music, relaxing, figuring out how things could be done better. It’s good things for sure!

Anyways, I’m off. I’ll figure out the rest of this web design before too long. And there will be much rejoicing.

Good health and good luck.

In the Process of Moving and Changing

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Well it’s May 1st and I’m moving back into my old room. It’s a good room, and far better equipped to handle the unboxing of my things and storage of them far better then my old place (The corner in the basement)

Currently all my clothes are still a pile on the floor, I have a japanese fan (cheap rip-off I think, but I love it anyway) in front of me covering my pile of important paperwork. There are empty boxes everywhere (My bookshelves are holding their former contents magnificently I think).

And work on the comic I’m starting today… Well one can’t MAGICALLY do everything. On the other hand, since I’ll be trying to do so anyway, maybe I shouldn’t give in so easily? But in that case I’ll be putting that massive pile into nicely folded (Or well hung) piles and relocating them to my mostly clothing closet. Then putting up posters/ artwork around the house, forming a plan for more resources (The money in particular is in great need and desperately needed. Did I mention it’s in need?), likely in the form of either a job or freelance. That’s right, I’m not unemployed, I’m a Gentleman Adventurer (Hero for hire, Freelancer, etc..)!

Cheers, I’m off to mow the lawn and tackle this mess of property.
